Bear has been so sick for the last week, I couldn’t stand to see him suffer any longer. During the night Bear barked around 3AM and I went to see what he needed and then went back upstairs only to be called down again by him a few minutes later. It seemed to me that Bear wanted company so I decided to spend the rest of the night downstairs and close to him. And then it was time for him to leave. Mike took him to Dr. Nelson’s yesterday morning…
So sorry to hear about Bear. It’s so hard to say good-bye, but you have to think of the quality of his life. He won’t be in pain anymore. We only met him this fall, but he was a really neat dog!
Oh, poor Bear… Very sorry to hear this, Iris.
Thanks you two. I am very sad 😦
But I know that it is for the best
We had a Lab who, in a similar way, let us know when it was time to go.
It about broke my heart.
I am sorry to hear about your loss Iris. I know you and your family are really missing Bear. You were very good to him and he had a great life. I guess you have to just remember the happy times. He was a very sweet dog.
Thank you Robbyn. He was sweet indeed 🙂
We will miss seeing Bear this summer. We surely can understand the sadness of losing a special pet.
Bear was such a calm and comforting companion.
He was a good, old soul. A great number of guests are going to miss him.
Oh no!! I am so sorry to hear! It’s so hard to lose a pet. I know how heart broken you must be. My heart aches for you all.
Thanks much Christine
Iris, I was so sorry to read about Bear. My dog, Lucy, got sick last January and had to be put to sleep. She and Bear are probably chasing each other or chasing squirrels or chasing something over the Rainbow Bridge.
Joyce
I like your idea Joyce – our pooches frolicking in the clouds.
Gosh it’s so hard to say goodbye to our friends.
I’m so sorry I missed this entry Iris. Dear Bear lived a blessed life with you – I know how sad you must be – the loss of a dear friend…
Iris,
I was so sorry to hear about your Bear. We lost our chocolate lab, Bud, at 14 years of age in much the same way 2 1/2 years ago. He let us know when he was ready.
I just believe all the Bears and Buds of this world, who have been loved so much, are waiting for us to join them. Billy Graham was once asked if he believed there would be dogs in Heaven. He smiled and said this. “There are no direct words in the Bible that speak to our pets being there. But, I believe this. If God thinks that Heaven will not be Heaven for me without my beloved dog being there with me, He will make sure he is there.” I thought that was a beautiful answer, and I believe the same thing. God bless.
I know I’m late to this story, but I’m so sorry. We just lost our 12 year old Golden….I feel your pain. Dogs are part of the family.
Oh Angie, I didn’t know about your Golden. I am sorry to hear it. Are the kids alright?
Having been out of the loop due to a nasty recent flu, I’m just now catching up and saw the sad news about Bear.
I’m so sorry, Iris. Having to say goodbye to our animals is one of the hardest things we ever have to do as pet owners. Bear was lucky to spend the last years of his life with your family, and I know how special he was to you. Remember him with love — it’s his best legacy.
Thank you Kem,
I hope you’re feeling better.
The kids are fine Iris..thanks for asking. Ranger is their dog and he is absolutely wonderful and cute and silly! Keegan was the old man in the family – he was 12 and it was definitely time for him. We miss him, but he lived a long, happy, comfortable dog’s life! There’s always a little hole when one leaves us though. 😦
I’m so sorry to hear about Bear. I’m glad I got to meet him this summer. How old was he?
He was 14. He made a lot of guests happy actually. Such a good boy with the worst breath in history 🙂
Oh you’ve never smelled Habenaro’s! She is my “pitbull” cornish rex cat!!! Nasty!
