Chris the cable guy

We have had expanded cable here at the Wayfarer, or what ever that is called, for the last 12 years.  For some reason the higher the channel, the worse the picture.  Every year I call the cable company to get that taken care of and every year they sort of fix it.

Today Chris came.

He’s a neighbor working for the cable company (I didn’t know him/that).

He is the first one to diagnose something that makes sense.  Yay.  If he keeps his word, it will take all day but he WILL be here in the morning.

Yahooooouuuuooooo

Follow-up – Chris did come, he worked here most of the day, we’ve never had better reception, ever.   Ooops and I almost forgot to tell you all that the wireless internet has been fixed and is working swimmingly. So when you get here and absolutely cannot stay away from your computer and email and forums and what not, come and ask me for the access code, I’ll give it to you for freeeeeeeee

🙂 “The woman at the Wayfarer” is very happy 🙂

Getting the goods, or…

…harvesting the first VEGGIES!!

Katie came over yesterday with Ella, her little niece.  They picked a few weeds and then they discovered that the beans were ripe for the picking. Don’t they look amazing?  Hehe and the basil looks like it wants to be picked as well.  The peppers are still growing nicely, the onions look small. I am talking about those things that stick up from the ground that look like chives, they look a little small to me. But what do I know?

Ok, question for you all, how long will the beans produce?  Is this handful all there is on those small plants?

So this was a nice end to a fun afternoon.  Katie came over around 6:30 – I had just come home from a Chamber function on the Sand Dunes Boat.

Yes there was wine and beer and good food involved there too.  Gluttony (is that how it’s spelled?)

Laundry day

the laundry truck

The laundry truck and Bryan

It is Tuesday which means “laundry day” at the Wayfarer.  I have a love-hate relationship with laundry day.  I am happy when the dirty laundry gets picked up, but I am not so happy when I have to write the laundry man a check every Tuesday and Friday, heh!

Bryan has been my laundry man for the last 2 seasons.  We’ve been through a few laundry delivery man during the last 15 seasons, I think Bryan is the youngest.   He is one of the most  pleasant drivers we’ve been dealing with.

Poor Bryan. He has to listen to me complain every week about sheets that smell funny and can’t be used to pillow cases that are for king size pillows or they’re not ironed well or some of the linens are torn or stained and can’t be used – you name it we have it and we let him have it.  Poor Bryan.

The Doctor is in

Today Ty had his sports physical with our very own Dr. Coles.  He is great.

Dr. Coles is a typical country doctor who knows his patients like he knows his family.  If he doesn’t know what might be wrong, he consults one of his huge books.  Visits with Dr. Coles typically last an hour, they involve chatting about our lives.  I bet if he were like the doctors we grew up with in Germany, he’d come over for a home visit and look in on his patients, knowing that there would be a cup of tea and a piece of homemade cake waiting for him.
Lately we’ve been talking about his daughter’s upcoming wedding this weekend, with his mother and sister staying with us here at the Wayfarer – he is never in a rush to get to the next patient and his waiting room is always stuffed with patients.

So, Ty had his physical while I waited outside chatting with Linda (the former county prosecutor’s wife) and Vicky, her partner in crime, errrr….her college in the front office.   After a while Minda, Dr. Coles’ nurse called me in to discuss some shots that neither of my kids ever got and need to get and we were all scratching our heads as to how that could have slipped through the cracks and not even the school noticed it, etc.  So now, both boys have to go to the big “blood letting” up to Paul Oliver Memorial Hospital tomorrow and get those tests out of the way.  Never a dull moment 😉

So here’s looking at Minda’s domain, it always looks like my office does. Makes me feel better about that.

That was the excitement of the day.
The only other thing that is worth reporting [or not] is that I tried to fix my dishwasher which doesn’t wash dishes anymore, it just distributes the little food particles and whatever mess is left in our coffee cups all over all of the dishes and then bakes them on in the drying cycle.  I couldn’t fix the dang thing.
I am not going to call the local appliance store after their repair guy called me one day and yelled at me [instead of coming over to work on the problem] because my washing machine doesn’t work so well anymore.  He told me that all those machines work just fine. I seem to be the only one who has a problem with it and he told me basically that I was stupid not to know that I need to buy a very expensive product and with that to periodically clean my washing machine. Huh? 😯  Who ever has heard of such an asinine thing.
Anyway, I will not call them to come and repair my dishwasher, I’d sooner buy a whole new one.

Ok rant over, nothing to see here.  Everybody go back to work  – move along

This time it’s right

Impatiens blossom

I have these little terracotta pots installed under the windows of the front row cottages.  I like the way that looks except I have never been able to find the right flowers to plant in there that will last all summer.
The first year I had them, I stuck plastic flowers in there. Blech! what a mistake that was; every time I walked by there, they reminded me of those dreadful plastic flowers people put on grave sites.   Then I kept on buying pansies and stuck them in there.  That looks nice in the early spring, but by the end of spring/beginning of summer, those little things had grown necks so long, they nearly could bump their pretty, little heads on the sidewalk.  Blech!
This year I listened to none other than Jane from Putney’s in Arcadia. You know of whom I speak if you’ve been with me here since April 😉
Jane told me to use 3 Impatiens for every pot: 1 white, 1 orange and 1 red and watch the beauty unfold.  OMGosh she was so right.  The Impatiens are absolutely wonderful to look at and they are no work at all.  In the spring, when they looked so bedraggled still and had nothing to show for, I would not have believed that they could look this good.

Thank you Jane

Sky

We have some interesting skies here in Michigan.  I wish I knew how to take GOOD pictures of the sky.

This morning as I was messing around with my vacancy/no vacancy sign for the umpteenth time, I saw this:

...

Although it looked pretty dark and scary for a few minutes, the clouds went away and the sky is now a brilliant, lazy blue.
It rained hard last night. That’s how we like it. It is perfect for sleeping and in the morning everything has a fresh, clean new face and the guests can go and enjoy the beach or the dunes or the shops or, or, or…  🙂

And this evening this is what I saw in the north western sky

...

Oh look there’s a light on in cottage 7’s kitchen 😉
